About my training philosophy
At Bea Burnham Dressage, I combine thoughtful horsemanship with competitive experience to create a training approach that empowers you with the skills and confidence to build a true partnership with your horse.
My training begins with a strong foundation in groundwork, where the focus is on connecting the horse’s mind and body. Groundwork is not simply a preparatory step — it is a vital building block that underpins everything that follows under saddle.
A key element of this work is teaching the horse to respond positively to pressure. Pressure can take many forms, and when introduced clearly and fairly, it becomes a tool for communication rather than tension.
By developing the horse’s understanding of pressure and building confidence on the ground, we create a smooth and supportive transition to ridden work.
As training progresses under saddle, the focus remains on balance, suppleness, and a relaxed yet responsive connection between horse and rider. Each step is introduced progressively, ensuring the horse feels confident and physically prepared.
This careful progression supports the horse’s mental and physical wellbeing, which is essential for longevity and peak performance — particularly in the demands of competition.
Together, we develop the horse’s natural way of going, improve balance and suppleness, and build strength and power without tension.
The result is a harmonious, responsive partnership built on understanding and trust — providing a solid foundation for success in the arena while supporting the horse’s wellbeing throughout their training journey.
